List: The First Scottish Style Awards

Scots from the media, entertainment and fashion worlds gathered last night to honour achievements in the creative industries at the first 'Scottish Style Awards'. 'Radio One' DJ Ms.Edith Bowman, from Fife, flew to Glasgow straight after her radio show to host the evening for 500 VIP guests. Speaking before the show, she said:
Edith Bowman'I always get really nervous before these things but I was so chuffed to be asked to host the evening. 'I think that anything that draws attention to Scottish creativity is a bonus; there are so many things to talk about, from bands to designers. 'The designer category shows the vast influence that Scots have in the fashion industry.'
Thirteen Style awards were handed out at 'The Tramway' venue, the biggest art space in Europe. Scotland's 'Most Stylish Band', 'El Presidente', performed their new single 'Rocket' after beating fellow nominee Ms.Spiteri and 'Texas' to win the award. Ms.Spiteri rushed to the award ceremony with her band straight from their gig at 'The Carling Academy'. Television presenter Ms.Cathy Macdonald, actress Ms.Dawn Steele and makeover duo Mr.Colin Ryan and Mr.Justin Mcallister, who both presented an award, also attended. All the nominees for 'Scottish Fashion Designer of the Year' took part in a fashion show before the awards were handed out. Among the nominees was 'Gucci's' Mr.John Ray, from Dundee, described as Mr.Tom Ford's successor. His menswear show included a 22_000_GBP coat and a 34_000_GBP alligator-skin bag. Another international player in the Scottish designer category was Mr.Graeme Black from 'Ferragamo'. However, both big-hitters were beaten by a graduate of 'The Glasgow School of Art', Mr.Jonathan Saunders, who won rave reviews at 'London Fashion Week'. Other winners included 'Timorous Beasties', a Glasgow design company that makes textiles and wallcoverings, who were awarded 'Outstanding Contribution to Scottish Style'. Mr.Paul Simmons and Mr.Alistair Mcauley's partnership, which set up 15 years ago, is known for its oversize insect and fauna prints, described as 'William Morris on acid'. Lauren Tempany Linlithgow-born model Ms.Lauren Tempany, billed as 'the new Kate Moss', was named 'Scotland's Most Stylish Female', against competition from Ms.Bowman and Ms.Macdonald. Ms.Tempany was spotted by talent scouts in Glasgow aged 14 and has been used by designer Mr.Alexander Mcqueen and fashion house 'Prada'. Robert CarlyleMeanwhile, actor Mr.Robert Carlyle was named 'Scotland's Most Stylish Male' after beating Hollywood favourite Mr.Ewan Mcgregor, Mr.Alan Cumming, Mr.Dougray Scott and 'Dr.Who' actor Mr.David Tennant. A notable absentee from the shortlist was actor Sir Sean Connery, 74. 'We wanted to make the list more contemporary,' explained one insider. Mr.Alex Mosson, chairman of 'Glasgow City Marketing Bureau', said:
'The branding campaign "Glasgow: Scotland With Style" was launched 18 months ago and tonight we have been given plenty of food for thought for taking it forward.'
Mr.John Davidson, who organised the award ceremony, said:
'Often people don't really have an awareness of these really successful Scots.
'One of the ideas behind the award show was to throw a bit of a focus on Scots who have had stellar careers.'
Ms.Mary Mcgowne, who created the concept of the awards, said:
'Hopefully there will be a heightened awareness of the sheer depth and breadth of talent in Scotland today.
'Scotland is the best kept secret in style.'

Big Sharleen wiz annoyed at not winning that she gave chase and started shooting up on the M8. That's Tallies fur ye... if thur no shootin at ye, it's chopping aff yer horse's heid.
